Disc Golf - Handicapped Match Play
How It Works

  1. As the title indicates, this is for Disc Golf.
  2. As indicated it is handicapped play, meaning that all skill levels may compete against each other.
  3. Also as indicated, it applies to match-play (2, 3, or 4) players in a match.
  4. The handicapping is accomplished for each of the 18 holes individually by summing the scores of the most recent 10 (or fewer) matches and dividing by the number of matches recorded.
  5. To guard against 'sandbagging' there is a cap applied to some scores going into the averaging process based on your total score for the whole 18 as follows:
    • 18-45 will be capped at 3
    • 46-63 will be capped at 4
    • 64-81 will be capped at 5
    • 82-99 will be capped at 6
    • 100-117 will be capped at 7
    • 118-135 will be capped at 8
    • 136 and up will be capped at 9
  6. The computer program will calculate and keep track of your handicap (HCP) for each hole.
  7. Your HCP is subtracted from your score (SCR) giving you a NET for the each of the 18 holes. (Your hole HCPs going into your first match will be the same as your SCRs unless they are capped as indicated above in which case your HCP would be less ).
  8. The awarding of points (PTS)is accomplished for each of the 18 holes, individually, by comparing the NETs (lower NET is better) and applying the PTS as follows:
    • If 2 in the match:
      • Winner gets 12 PTS.
      • Loser gets 0 PTS.
    • If 3 in the match:
      • Winner gets 12 PTS.
      • 2nd gets 6 PTS.
      • 3rd gets 0 PTS.
    • If 4 in the match:
      • Winner gets 12 PTS.
      • 2nd gets 8 PTS.
      • 3rd gets 4 PTS.
      • 4th gets 0 PTS.
    • If ties in 2 or more positions, the PTS for those positions are summed and awarded equally to each.
  9. To give a slight advantage to the better players, an additional set of PTS as detailed above are awarded for the total scratch score for the whole 18 holes.
  10. The maximum PTS that any player can achieve for the match is 228 (12 times 19) whether he/she is playing with 1, 2 or 3 others.
  11. So really, each person generally plays against his own average on each hole and the person(s) that does(do) the better against their average will win the most points.
  12. The listings page is pretty self explanatory and separated into 3 sections:
    • The Current Point Ranking - High PTS are good here even though you need low scores to get high points. The TOT PTS represent the total of your last 10 matches only (the oldest kicks off when a new one is added after 10).
    • The Current Handicaps - Shows each person's latest HCP.
    • The Detail of Recent Matches - Self explanatory (the latest match is on top).
