In the 1970's she worked and served on various committees for Life Seekers (a group that raised money for neo-natal equipment for St Louis area hospitals.) She owned her own bakery, her cakes were gorgeous but delicious also. She was a dietician for a Mississippi Retirement Home, which she loved being around the older people and seeing that they received the proper nutrition.
