Goodbye Johnny

Yes I'll jump in the cold dark river

For Johnny loves me no more.

But while I'd be struggling and drowning

He'd stand on the opposite shore.

'Twas long-long ago that he loved me

Long ago when the grass was so green

But now that the cold winds are blowing

I'm "jilted, forsaken, unseen".

He is passionless heartless and cruel

His affections for me have grown cold

And I am heartsick and dying

I'm weary, forsaken and old.

Last night when we stood 'neath the willows

He asked for his ring and then said

That now he is loving another

His love toward me was now dead.

Although in my heart I still love him

And surely his hearts' made of stone

Maybe someday he’ll be sorry

When up into Heaven I've flown.

I hope when I look down upon them

Look down from the Angels bright fold

He’ll think how he once said he loved me

Goodbye, Johnny darling so cold.
